Regular Consumption of Aronia Juice

Suc - Aronia Melanocarpa

Aronia is a type of shrub native to North America, now cultivated in Eastern Europe. The name aronia generally refers to the fruits that grow on this shrub. Aronia berries can be consumed fresh or used as an ingredient in foods such as pies, juices, and tea. However, juice is the most preferred product when it comes to aronia consumption.

Many of the proposed health benefits of aronia are related to its high content of nutrients called polyphenols. A 2015 study in Food Science and Biotechnology noted that previous research found aronia to have the highest polyphenol content among 143 plants studied.

Among the benefits of regular consumption of aronia juice are the following:

Anti-cancer effects

A 2004 study examined the effects of aronia juice and extracts from these fruits in preventing colon cancer. The study found that while all the berry extracts used inhibited the growth of cancer cells, aronia had the strongest effect.

A 2009 study found that aronia juice helped reduce the development of malignant tumor cells in breast cancer. The study authors concluded that aronia extract demonstrated protective qualities in individuals suffering from breast cancer.

Anti-diabetic effects

Research appears to support the anti-diabetic effects of aronia juice. A 2015 study on rats found that aronia juice helped stimulate the immune system and reduce diabetes-related inflammation. A 2012 study on insulin-resistant rats found that aronia juice had an effect on insulin resistance at multiple levels. This result makes aronia one of the best solutions for preventing diabetes. Consumed in the form of juice, it can have positive effects for people with diabetes or metabolic syndrome.

A 2016 study found that blood glucose levels and obesity can be improved using aronia juice.

Improves organ health

A 2016 study analyzed the effects of aronia berry juice on rats with liver damage. Researchers found that the juice reduced the severity and symptoms caused by liver diseases.

A similar 2017 study also found that aronia juice has protective effects against liver damage. The study authors suggested that the effect may be due to the antioxidant activity of aronia berries.

Another rodent study from 2017 found that aronia juice helped reduce symptoms in rats suffering from ulcers or having damaged stomach walls. The study suggested that, in this case, the benefits of aronia could be due to stimulating mucus production, as well as its ability to combat oxidative stress.

Blood vessel health

A 2015 study found that aronia offers protection against coronary heart disease. Aronia protects blood vessels from deposits that can develop on their inner walls.

Both aronia juice and blackberry juice helped relax tissue, which allows for increased blood flow. This is important because many cardiovascular diseases result in hardening of the arteries and a reduced ability of blood vessels to relax. This effect will also lead to a decrease in blood pressure. Of the three juices tested, aronia had the strongest effects. Researchers concluded that aronia juice has significant benefits in treating vascular diseases.

Contributes to nutritional balance

The specific nutrient balance in aronia juice varies depending on how the plant was grown and how the juice was prepared. Everything depends on how the aronia developed and when the fruits were harvested. Aronia is known for its multitude of nutrients.

Aronia is a dense food containing a wide range of vitamins and minerals, including zinc, magnesium, iron, and vitamins C, B, and K. Specific nutrient values will vary depending on how aronia is grown and prepared. Aronia juice offers numerous benefits to consumers, and there are multiple preparation options so that each person can use these fruits according to their personal preferences. Whether it’s a flavorful smoothie or juice preserved for winter, the benefits of regular consumption are similar.
